Tottenham Hotspur look set to miss out on another managerial target with Vincenzo Italiano heading for Napoli.
Tottenham were linked with Vincenzo Italiano last week but he is set to trade Fiorentina for Napoli in the coming weeks.
Spurs seemed to be focusing in on appointing Feyenoord boss Arne Slot this time last week.
A deal for the Dutchman failed to materialise though as Slot committed his future to the Eredivisie champions.
That result in more rumours about who could become the new Tottenham manager.
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano was the surprise name mentioned on Thursday by Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, as quoted by Fiorentina.it.
It was suggested that Tottenham had identified Italiano as an alternative to Slot after being impressed with his this season.
Di Marzio did though highlight that Spurs were battling Napoli for Italiano and it looks like Tottenham will miss out.
Tottenham-linked Vincenzo Italiano set for Napoli move
Area Napoli report that Napoli have picked Italiano as their new manager to replace Luciano Spalletti.
Napoli just won the Serie A title under Spaletti but he now wants to go away and rest after an intense season.
Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to bring in Italiano and a deal is now expected to go through.
Napoli do face a little wait; Italiano will lead his Fiorentina side into the Europa Conference League final against West Ham United on June 7th.
No deal will be completed to announced before then but the expectation is that Italiano will head to Napoli soon enough.
Italiano has shown huge promise in charge of Fiorentina and has even been branded as ‘similar to Jurgen Klopp’ by Italian pundit Riccardo Trevisani.
The links to Tottenham weren’t particularly strong but it’s another name to seemingly cross off the list as Spurs chase a new boss.
