Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has aimed a thinly veiled dig at ex-Celtic striker Moussa Dembele.
The Villains’ all-time top Premier League scorer is never shy in expressing his opinions and writing in his column for Football Insider, he has wasted no time in discussing former Parkhead favourite Dembele’s next transfer move. The Frenchman was a revelation in Glasgow under Brendan Rodgers and his scintillating form earned him a money-spinning move to Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais in 2018.
He has been a central figure for the club but he is out of contract at the end of the season and has told Lyon he will not sign a new deal. Dembele has been linked heavily with the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Napoli of late, who have both reportedly already entered into talks to sign him on a free.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Dembele has the choice of Palace and Villa – he’s choosing Aston Villa.”
However, Agbonlahor appeared to denounce Dembele’s credentials against other potential transfer targets of Villa’s in the summer, suggesting more quality options than Dembele are out there.
He continued: “But they might now look at Dembele and move on to looking at other, better strikers. There’s talk of Ferran Torres, Asensio – there will be lots of players available.”
