Central referee for West Ham’s Conference League final is Confirmed… Concerns Raised as he has given out 11 red and 100 yellow cards in just 26 matches officiated this season

The referee who will take charge of West Ham United’s Conference League Final clash with Fiorentina has been announced.

 

Spanish official Carlos del Cerro Grande will referee the 2023 showpiece between the Hammers and the Serie A side on 7 June, to be played at the Eden Arena in Prague, Czechia.

The 47-year-old has taken charge of five UEFA Champions League matches this season, although the Conference League final represents his first involvement in a major UEFA club competition final.

Having made his debut as a pro official in 2000 as a Segunda Division B referee, del Cerro began officiating international fixtures in 2013, while he took place in his first major international tournament in Euro 2020.

 

This season he has taken charge of a total of 26 matches across La Liga the Champions League and the Nations League, during which he has issued 100 yellow cards and 11 reds, at a rate of 3.85 and 0.42 per match respectively.
