Popular Pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted that Emiliano Martinez is a better goalkeeper than Aaron Ramsdale.
The vocal pundit made this claim on talkSPORT, which is bound to stir up controversy, considering the latter was sold by Mikel Arteta’s side in 2020.
However, it seems Gabby Agbonlahor firmly believes that Aston Villa No.1 Emiliano Martinez is better than Arsenal shotstopper Aaron Ramsdale.
Gabby Agbonlahor insists Emiliano Martinez is better than Aaron Ramsdale
The England international has widely been lauded as one of, if not the most in-form goalkeeper in the Premier League this campaign.
Renowned for both being an expert shotstopper whilst being terrific on the ball, Ramsdale has been touted as his nation’s starting goalkeeper for years to come, due to how complete his skillset is.
Gabby Agbonlahor, who is known to support Arsenal believes that Aaron Ramsdale still cannot claim to be better than Emiliano Martinez.
I don’t think he’s [Aaron Ramsdale] world-class. No, he’s not world-class.”
“Yesterday, I was talking to someone about Martinez, [there has] been talk that all the big clubs want Aston Villa’s goalkeeper. I’m saying, ‘you can’t let him go, Aston Villa!’. Because every club that’s doing well in world football has got a top goalkeeper and he’s top. Martinez is better than Ramsdale for me.”
As good as the Aston Villa goalkeeper is, Ramsdale is clearly better
While Emiliano Martinez has shown for both club and country that he is top-quality, Gabby Agbonlahor is perhaps taking it too far by calling him better than Aaron Ramsdale.
The Arsenal goalkeeper, alongside Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Manchester City’s Ederson and Newcastle’s Nick Pope is right up there amongst the very best goalkeepers in the league.
Besides, Martinez’s spell at Villa has not been a resounding success as last season in particular, he was far from his best.
Perhaps the Argentine’s heroics in his nation’s World Cup triumph are clouding Agbonlahor’s judgement.
While Ramsdale’s levels have dropped off in recent weeks, it would be a lie to suggest he has been anything but sensational since joining Arsenal in the summer of 2021.
