CHARLES WATTS ADVICES ARSENAL TO OFFLOAD 27-YEAR-OLD PLAYER IF THEY WANT A TROPHY

Charles Watts believes that Arsenal need to move 27year old player on at the end of the season. The Gunners guru, writing on Goal.com, acknowledged that the 27-year-old has been a great servant for the club.

However, Watts reckons that, if Arsenal want to go to the next level, they can’t field a team which includes Holding.

The Gunners suffered a potentially critical blow in their hopes of winning the Premier League title on Wednesday.

Mikel Arteta’s charges suffered a 4-1 defeat away at fellow title challengers Manchester City.

The Citizens are now just two points behind Arsenal and, with their two games in hand, could go four points clear.

Holding, who has been covering for William Saliba, was given a torrid time by Erling Haaland time and time again.

He also pushed up into midfield on several occasions, which allowed the opposition to cut through Arsenal easily.

Admittedly, he did pull a goal back for Arsenal with a neat finish, but it was not enough to salvage a poor display.

“If they want to go to the next level, they can’t field a team with Rob Holding in it next season if they want to compete,” wrote Watts.

“That’s no slight against Holding. He’s been a fine player for Arsenal and has done a lot of good behind the scenes, but it’s time to move on.

“He was brutally exposed by Erling Haaland at the Etihad and it’s undeniable that his inclusion in the starting XI due to William Saliba’s injury has led to a massive dip in results and performance.“Holding’s deficiencies, especially in this Arteta system, are clear. His teammates know it and that has seen a nervousness filter into Arsenal’s play.”

Our viewAs Watts said, Holding has been a great servant for Arsenal. He has not complained about being back-up, his attitude is great, and he has been a great deputy when called upon.

However, Wednesday’s performance and result highlighted that Arsenal have some way to go before catching up with the City juggernaut.

Holding is a great Premier League player, by all means, but the Gunners will need stronger back-up if they are to get over the line in the title race.
