Wrexham are lining up a further two signings after agreeing a club-record fee to sign New Zealand left-back Liberato Cacace, it has been reported.
The 24-year-old, who currently plays for Serie B club Empoli, is set to join the club for a fee of £2.2 million plus bonuses, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.
The deal has not been finalised yet, but Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson revealed on Thursday that he has already spoken to the New Zealand international.
“If we can get the signing completed he’s a player who will fit in with the culture we’ve created at Wrexham,” Parkinson said.
“What a coincidence that we’re in Wellington [New Zealand, for Wrexham’s pre-season], his family have a restaurant.
“We’ll see how the deal progresses but it’d be nice to go down and have a glass of wine with his dad today and introduce myself.”
The Red Dragons have already completed two transfers as they prepare for life in the Championship.
Goalkeeper Danny Ward has arrived as a free agent after his Leicester contract expired, while striker Ryan Hardie was signed from Plymouth for a fee believed to be £700,000.
Hardie scored on his debut as Wrexham defeated Melbourne Victory 3-0 last week.
According to The Bolton News, the club are readying a move to sign Bolton midfielder George Thomason for a low seven-figure fee.The 24-year-old, who was released by Blackpool aged 16 before signing for local non-league side Longridge Town, has established himself as one of the top midfielders in the EFL since joining Bolton in 2020.
A combative deep-lying playmaker whose main strengths are his passing and tackling abilities, Thomason added goals to his game last season and struck on six occasions in League One.
Now, Wrexham are preparing two more statement signings.Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that Wrexham could smash their transfer record twice in one window as they target Hull centre-back Alfie Jones.The 27-year-old was pivotal in helping the Tigers avoid relegation from the Championship last season, and is reportedly valued at around £3 million.
That fee could potentially be lowered given that Hull are in difficulties relating to the club’s finances.
The Tigers were given a fee-restricted transfer embargo that lasts until January 2027 earlier this month, having failed to maintain transfer payments.
The saga centred around a failed £1 million payment to Aston Villa for striker Louie Barry, who joined Hull on loan for the second half of last season but only played four games before suffering a serious knee injury.
An appeal was launched and Hull stated there was a ‘misunderstanding’ surrounding the payment, but The Athletic have reported that the club have future commitments of almost £22 million for players that have been signed under their current ownership.
