West Ham United and Lucas Paqueta have had it rough this season in more ways than one.
The Hammers are among the worst-performing teams in the Premier League and while Graham Potter might now be in the hot seat trying to turn things around, it feels like a lot more should be coming from the London Stadium outfit.
While they may have bolstered their ranks with the addition of Evan Ferguson in the winter transfer window, more should have been done, with Paqueta now making matters worse.
Why do West Ham United feel betrayed by Lucas Paqueta?
Paqueta has been the star man at West Ham United for the last few seasons and while they are often much worse off without him starting the game, it feels like the Brazilian is a lot of hassle to keep around.
The midfielder is set to start his trial with the FA in March for his alleged betting offences and with that hanging over his head, it feels like he hasn’t been the same player.
And, after a new report from Brazilian outlet O Dia emerged (9 February), it seems like the playmaker has gone behind the back of the Hammers to try and negotiate his exit.Throughout the winter window, Paqueta was linked with a return to Brazil with Flamengo and O Dia has now shared a meeting the midfielder had with the Brazilian outlet was “not reported” to the Hammers.The report added that West Ham were left “surprised” by the meeting and club officials see what he did as an “act of betrayal”.Lucas Paqueta could be on his way out of the London Stadium
Ever since Paqueta joined West Ham from Olympique Lyon, it feels like he’s always been looking for a way out.
The Hammers took a chance on the Brazilian to bring him to the Premier League and evidently, he’s more than taken it into his stride.
So, the fact that he’s gone behind the back of the London club to try and negotiate his way out of the London Stadium could mean that his time with the Hammers is now over.
If that is the case, Potter will no doubt have a new playmaker at the top of his priority list in the summer and there could be even more changes coming David Sullivan’s way.
