Arsenal fans have called on the club to sign their “missing piece” in Alexander Isak, after he played a key role in sending Newcastle through to the Carabao Cup final.
Eddie Howe’s side secured a 4-0 aggregate victory over Arsenal, sealing their place at Wembley with a 2-0 win on 5 February, thanks to goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon.
Isak is touted as Arsenal’s priority summer signing, showcased his quality once again, causing early problems for the away side. The Swedish forward found the net just seven minutes into the match, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
However, he continued to trouble the away defence, spinning past William Saliba to create another chance. His strike cannoned off the post, allowing Murphy to tap in the rebound
Gordon scored once again as he did in the first leg after David Raya’s costly pass to Declan Rice was intercepted and Gordon had a simple finish to send Newcastle through.
Newcastle need to do all they can to keep Alexander Isak
The Magpies are prepared to offer Isak the biggest contract in the club’s history as he looks set to enjoy his best goal-scoring season yet.
The defeat means they are now out of both domestic cup competitions, following their early FA Cup exit to Man United in the third round.
Arsenal supporters called for the club to sign an attacker in January after Gabriel Jesus’ injury, but no signing was made. Following Isak’s standout performance, one fan urged the club to “break the bank” for him this summer, while another insisted they should sign him “at all costs.”
