Marcus Rashford has posted a message on Instagram following his loan move to Aston Villa from Manchester United after being frozen out under Ruben Amorim.
The England international completed a loan deal until the end of the season, with Villa holding an option to buy.
If the club decides to trigger the purchase clause, Rashford would sign a contract running until 2028 at a significant financial commitment.
Despite this, Rashford received an outpouring of support from former teammates on his Instagram post.
Jadon Sancho commented, “He’s back!” while Kyle Walker, who also made a controversial move this January, wrote, “All the best, broski.” Alejandro Garnacho, who himself was linked with a transfer, echoed Walker’s message and said “All the best Rash”.
Marcus Rashford has opportunity for a fresh start with Aston Villa
With seven goals in 24 appearances this season, Rashford has endured a mixed campaign, further complicated by the circumstances of his departure from his boyhood club.
Having risen through United’s academy, he has been with the club since childhood, making his first-team debut in 2016. The versatile forward has since scored 138 goals for the Red Devils
Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s side needed attacking reinforcements after losing Jhon Duran to a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the window despite widespread criticism on the move. Rashford’s arrival strengthens Villa’s forward options as they push for Champions League qualification.
Following his first message as an Aston Villa player, Rashford received an outpouring of support from former teammates. Sancho, who also left United on loan last summer and has rediscovered his form at Chelsea, was among those showing respect. Walker, who made a bold move to AC Milan this January for the sake of his career, also sent his best wishes.
All three players have faced scrutiny for different reasons, but each has taken a step to revive their career. Now, Rashford has the same opportunity to prove himself at his new club.
