West Ham boss Graham Potter has addressed James Ward-Prowse’s return from Nottingham Forest.
Ward-Prowse was due to spend the season on loan with the Reds from West Ham, but the deal was terminated before the January transfer window deadline and he is back at the London Stadium. He struggled to make an impact at the City Ground, playing in just nine Premier League matches for Forest.
Potter was asked about the player’s return alongside the loan signing of striker Evan Ferguson from Brighton. He said: “To get the two characters that we did, Evan and James, I think they will help the team improve training every day.”
Asked whether cutting Ward-Prowse’s Forest loan short was always part of his plan, Potter added: “It was something we were aware of. It’s always a bit meandering in the window. But as a professional and as a man of experience, he is top. We are looking forward to working with him.”
Ward-Prowse was also valued by Forest head coach Nuno for his professionalism and influence in the dressing room, despite his lack of game time Trentside. Nuno now has Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare back from injury to bolster his options in the centre of the pitch, so agreeing to end Ward-Prowse’s loan spell feels like a sensible decision.
