Man United fans have reacted on social media after their former winger Anthony Elanga’s stunning display for Nottingham Forest with an Old Trafford return mooted.
The Swedish winger assisted three goals in Forest’s demolition of Brighton, as the Tricky Trees ran out 7-0 winners on Saturday (1 February).
Elanga joined Forest from United in July 2023 [Sky Sports] and has developed into a wonderfully talented winger.
The former United man already has three goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season, one assist from equalling his tally of nine last year.
Elanga remains under contract until 2028 at the City Ground, having rejected a deadline-day bid for the Swedish international last summer, worth £50million [Sky Sports].
Man United fans want to return after Antony departure to Real Betis
Having been sold by United to make way for the arrival of Brazilian winger Antony, fans of the Red Devils want to see Elanga return.
Antony has failed to impress during his time at the club, and was sent on-loan to Spanish side, Real Betis this January transfer window as Ruben Amorim tries to lift his club out of major struggles.
With news that Marcus Rashford is set to also leave the club in the winter transfer window, a return for Elanga may be a smart move by the top brass at United.
Any deal for the winger would not be a cheap move, as shown by Forest’s rejected bid from Newcastle, and the Swedish winger may see a return to Old Trafford as a step down with his side currently sat third in the Premier League table.
Fans were impressed by Elanga, as the winger became “just the second player to have a hat-trick of assists in the Premier League”, after Cole Palmer this season. Another fan claimed that United “sold the wrong Anthony”.
While many bemoaned the Swede’s exit another simply called for United to “buy Elanga back” and another said he’s “just what Amorim needs”.
