Celtic told Brendan Rodgers has got the club’s board to do something no-one has ever done in transfer window

That’s why, when Rodgers returned to Parkhead during the summer of 2023, he had a lot of winning over to do and it’s fair to say that he has done it.

That’s three trophies and counting for Celtic since his return, including progression into the knockout stages of the Champions League.

It has all resulted in the pot of money being available to the manager growing, especially with the current January transfer window to slam shut at 11 pm on Monday evening.

But, as of right now, the powers that be haven’t probably spent the money as the fans would have liked, especially after Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit.

Although, Andy Walker thinks the money has already been splashed.

Brendan Rodgers getting the Celtic board to spend

After winning the double last season, there was a lot of change in the summer transfer market, including a record deal for Arne Engels and the sale of Matt O’Riley.

Walker explained that no other manager in the history of Celtic has managed to persuade the board to spend as much as they have done, as he told Go Radio.

That’s probably why Rodgers has spoken about there being no difficulty in the club getting deals done this month, as the deadline looms.

“I don’t think it’s a message (to the Celtic board),” responded Walker on Rodgers playing the youngsters against Aston Villa.

“I don’t think any other Celtic manager could have got this Celtic board to spend as much as they have done in that summer window. Where they are spending £11 million on Engels. £9m on Adam Idah.

You listen to Brendan Rodgers from a few weeks ago, he spoke about the confidence he had in getting the players in during this window. There was no talk of January being that difficult month. He just spoke about the confidence in getting the players in that he wanted. Everybody will be desperate to get that last-minute signing through the door.

When you sell a man of O’Riley’s calibre, the best in Scotland last season and for a record fee, you then expect that money to be spent.

That’s what the Celtic board did, improving the spine of the team, including bringing in Kasper Schmeichel after Joe Hart retired.

In total, eight incomings were brought in, including Idah and Paulo Bernardo’s loan spells being made permanent.
