Nottingham Forest are targeting an ambitious move for Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha before the end of the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports. The Reds have been the surprise package in the Premier League so far this season and are sat in 3rd place in the table behind Liverpool and Arsenal.
Nuno Espirito Santo has worked wonders since taking over at The City Ground and he is now being linked with a surprise winter raid on his former club. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to land him before the deadline on Monday 3rd February.
Nottingham Forest have their sights set on reaching the Champions League and they are on a roll at the moment. They are carrying momentum and will want to keep their form going for as long as possibleThe window shuts in a couple of weeks time and teams across the country have the chance to bring in some new faces. It has been a quiet month so far but things could start to happen soon.Nottingham Forest and Wolves swap deal possibility
Nottingham Forest should try and use Taiwo Awoniyi as part of a potential swap deal to try and sign Cunha. He has been on the radar of West Ham recently, as per the Daily Mail, and his long-term future with the Reds is up in the air right now.
He would be a shrewd addition for Wolves if they were to get him and he would bolster their attacking ranks. The Nigeria international would give them something different going forward. The forward isn’t guaranteed regular minutes with his current club anymore so a change of scene would do him good. He faces a serious battle to get into Forest’s starting XI at the moment ahead of the prolific Chris Wood.
Wolves are currently fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the league and find themselves in 17th place. Promotion trio Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City occupy the bottom three and are trying to drag Vitor Pereira’s side into serious trouble. It would be a massive blow to lose Cunha but there is an air of inevitability that he will leave in the near future. Therefore, they need to start planning for life without him and someone like Awoniyi would certainly soften the blow.
What would Cunha offer to Nottingham Forest?
Cunha would be an eye-catching acquisition for Nottingham Forest and landing his services would be a massive statement of intent. He has been a standout player in the top flight over recent times and his pace and power would fit in perfectly for the Reds.
They are a side who like to sit back and catch teams on the break with the likes of Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi on the wings. Nuno’s side are dangerous on the counter attack and have caused problems to all opponents they have faced this term to date.
It remains to be seen whether they will be able to keep up the pace at the top. Their fans are dreaming of the return of European nights though and getting Cunha would significantly boost their chances.
