Premier League makes official decision ahead of Manchester United vs Brighton

Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend
Manchester United face Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils welcome the Seagulls to Old Trafford as they look to build some momentum.

Ruben Amorim’s head into the clash on the back of their 3-1 win over bottom of the table Southampton at home last time out. Amad Diallo scored a hat-trick against the Saints.

United are currently sat in 12th place in the table with 26 points on the board. It has been a tough season so far for the Red Devils and Amorim will be hoping that he can steady the ship over the next couple of months.
They have the chance to bolster their ranks with some new faces before the end of the January transfer window. They also have the opportnity to let some players head out the exit door to help free up space and funds to pave the way for reinforcements.
The Premier League have confirmed that Peter Bankes will referee United’s upcoming fixture against Brighton. Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh will be the assistant referees, with Robert Jones as the fourth official. Meanwhile, Craig Pawson and Steve Meredith will be on VAR duties.

Bankes has refereed the Red Devils on six occasions in the past. In those games, they have won three and lost three and he has dished out 11 yellow cards and no red cards.
The Lancashire-born man, who is 42-years-old, started refereeing in the Football League back in 2014. He then made the step up to the top flight five years later in 2019.

Speaking after the win over Southampton, Amorim said: “It was not a great match from our side. We had some problems, especially with balls between the lines, and did not have the connections we’re supposed to have in the game. It was, more or less, system versus system with a lot of duels. The speed from [Kamaldeen] Sulemana, who was really hard to catch, and they created some chances.

“We improved in the second half and, in the final 30 minutes, I felt Southampton were very tired, with the pressure we created. They lost some strength because they were going man-to-man during the pressure. They lose some power and the most important thing in this moment is to win and we did it. I had a feeling it was going to be hard but, in the end, I think we deserved the win.”

He added: “All the players in this team have the same responsibility. Amad doesn’t have to step up. If they work and train well, good things are going to happen. He has the same responsibility as every player that plays for Manchester United. He is in a great moment, doing a very good season but, like I’ve said, we see this in the past with a lot of players, players in our squad. He has to continue to work and play like that.”
