Who does that?’ Jamie Carragher absolutely rips into one West Ham player
Jamie Carragher has just slaughtered one West Ham United player and left him nowhere to hide.
West Ham took on Newcastle at St James’ Park in the Premier League on Monday night.
Julen Lopetegui was under huge pressure before the match, with talk of him losing his job by the end of the week.
However, the unbelievable performance from the Hammers against Newcastle put that talks to bed.
There were nom complaints by me after tonight’s game, and the players need to maintain those levels now.
They cannot afford to slip back into their old ways.
Before the win over Newcastle, West Ham had been so poor on the whole this season. A lack of consistency and discernible patterns of play have hindered our progress as a club.
Whilst Lopetegui has received plenty of criticism, the players need to shoulder some of the blame as well.
And one Hammer in particular bore the brunt of Carragher’s criticism.
Jamie Carragher absolutely rips into one West Ham player
The Hammers have had numerous players who have been underperforming so far this season.
And one of our high-profile summer signings has really flattered to deceive.
Jean-Clair Todibo joined the Hammers from Nice on a season long loan – one that will be made permanent in the summer.
However, he hasn’t looked anywhere near the levels required to succeed in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old was poor again during our clash with Newcastle on Monday, but Carragher’s criticism of him actually came before the game started, when speaking on Sky Sports (November 25th, 6:39pm):
“I want to go to a game where they lost to Nottingham Forest. They’ve got a player making a run, he’s already ran through two West Ham players. The centre-back here (Todibo), ok he’s tight and aggressive to Chris Wood, but then he gets away from him.“
Carragher then laid into Todibo for his attempt at showboating when his side were losing against Forest:
Then the game is gone, they’re 2-0 down very late in the game. Todibo the centre-back finds himself in midfield, look at this, the little flick, who does that when you’re 2-0 down to Nottingham Forest?“
Carragher is spot on.
Todibo is far too casual at times, and he needs to sharpen up quickly if he is to succeed with the Hammers.
There is an underlying culture at the London Stadium that I’m really not keen on.
A lack of professionalism seems to have seeped into our ranks, and Lopetegui has to sort that out as a matter of urgency.
Jamie Carragher let Jean-Clair Todibo have it tonight, and the West Ham centre-back needs to improve asap.
