Mike Dean reacts to Everton v Brentford controversy on Sky Sports
Mike Dean believes Christian Norgaard deserved to be sent off as Everton drew 0-0 against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Danish midfielder was given his marching orders after a VAR review for a challenge on Jordan Pickford on 23 November.
The Toffees couldn’t take advantage though, with few chances created despite being against 10 men for the entire second half at Goodison Park.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [23 November, 15:42], Dean reacted to the incident as footage reached him in the studio.
“He’s slipped but he’s caught Pickford, full studs just below the knee,” he said.It has to be a red card. It’s unlucky to see in real-time, but it has to be referred to VAR, has to have a look at it and 100 per cent a red card.”

Regardless of whether the challenge was deliberate or accidental, you cannot endanger an opponent like Norgaard did with his studs.
Pickford has been involved in similar incidents in the past, which is something that some rival fans may point out, but that is irrelevant now.
Thankfully, the goalkeeper didn’t pick up an injury and will continue to be a pivotal figure in the side, as he was with that sensational save from Yoanne Wissa.
Sean Dyche was under “extreme pressure” going into this game, and not being able to pick up three points when things went his way will not help that [The Esk].
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will once again take the flack for his little success in the final third, but nobody else is stepping up and that is a real issue.
There have been complaints from Everton fans, and rightly so, for some decisions against them this season, but when one went their way, the Toffees were unable to make it count.
It isn’t good enough right now.
