Jose Mourinho stance on West Ham United job emerges after new sack developments
Jose Mourinho would be open to becoming the manager of West Ham United with Julen Lopetegui currently under pressure, according to TBR Football.
The news outlet reports [9 November] that the Portuguese icon, currently at Fenerbahce, is looking to return to the Premier League next year, and would consider taking the reins at the London Stadium.
Lopetegui has struggled to bring the best out of the Hammers this season, but Jim White on talkSPORT [7 November] recently shared that the hierarchy isn’t looking to sack the Spaniard yet.
Jose Mourinho to West Ham United?
Mourinho is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers of this generation, but the 61-year-old’s stock has gone down in recent years.
After successful spells at Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea, the Portuguese has seen his reputation take a hit after his Manchester United, Tottenham and Roma stints.
Most fans now see Mourinho as a relic of the past whose ideas haven’t translated into the modern game.
At Fenerbahce, the veteran head coach has done a decent job, but currently sitting third in Turkey, it likely isn’t enough to bring more success.
The London Stadium faithful were happy to see the back of David Moyes despite his success at the club due to his negative style of play, but it hasn’t gone too well since.
If Mourinho were to take charge of West Ham, the Portuguese would arguably make the team more boring to watch, albeit defensively stable.
With the attacking talent at the Hammers, a more proactive manager seems like the right option, but it will be interesting to see how things transpire with Lopetegui in the coming weeks.
