Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon was showered with boos during England’s Nations League clash.
Gordon, 23, was named as part of much-changed England starting side as they welcomed Greece to Wembley on Thursday. However, it wasn’t the dream evening for the wing wizard – as his every touch was booed.
ITV commentator Sam Matterface noted the booing was coming from the Greek fans – but one fan on X noted: “Seems it’s not just Anthony Gordon getting booed by the Greek fans, it also happened to Trent when he took the corner. Maybe whoever is nearest to them gets booed?”
However, Newcastle fans had other theories, with one sharing: “Possibly a combination of Everton and Makems in the crowd but is anyone else hearing boos when Gordon is on the ball? Can’t be the Greeks surely! Pathetic if it’s those two groups of fans. Get behind him!”
