But Spurs have won every game since then – in three different competitions – and are now starting to look up rather than worry about the negative noise.

But that’s when Paul Scholes thinks Tottenham became ‘sloppy’ as he discussed Fernandes’ claim that Manchester United ‘might have turned it around’ had it remained 11 v 11.
At 2-0, Manchester United, even with the disadvantage, were sensing something and they were putting the pressure on with the home fans getting involved.
One man who Scholes singled out was James Maddison and how he kept ‘giving the ball away’ when playing against ten men, as he told Premier League Productions (29/09/24 at 7:10 pm).

“I actually felt Tottenham got a little bit sloppy against ten men,” said Scholes. “He (Fernandes) talked about how they might have turned it around with 11 men. I think with 11 men, it could have been three or four before he got sent off.
“I think him getting sent off might have done them a favour because, it’s 11-v-11, I don’t think Tottenham would have stopped. I think they got a little sloppy, at times, in the second half.
“Maddison, at times, giving the ball away.”

Postecoglou is the man of the moment again at Tottenham and those dark clouds that were hovering above the club during the north London derby seem to have slipped away.
Maddison is getting better, Dominic Solanke and Johnson can’t stop scoring, not forgetting that Spurs kept a much-needed clean sheet.
Yes, some would point towards the fact that they were playing against ten men, but those 40-odd minutes before Fernandes’ sending-off was pure domination.
Now it’s a case of trying to climb the Premier League table and charging their way through in the Europa League because fans are craving that much-wanted trophy.
