Spurs player ratings from 3-1 win vs Brentford – Bouncing back with a big win

It was another tense and entertaining encounter between Spurs and Brentford in the Premier League, and one that the Lilywhites managed to take all three points from.

A thrilling first-half saw Spurs fall behind after just 23 seconds, but the Ange Postecoglou‘s men kicked into gear, dominated the first 45, and went in at half-time leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson.

By the end of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home side managed to extend their lead through a James Maddisongoal, and will be happy to secure an important win to bounce back from back-to-back league defeats before this.

Here’s how we rated each Tottenham player for their performance today, on a scale of 1-10.

Tottenham Hotspur full-time ratings

Guglielmo Vicario: Suffered a fairly shaky first 45. Should have been sent off for handling outside the area but escaped a lucky VAR call. A terrible display all round from the Italian, who is struggling for confidence. Redeemed himself somewhat with a stunning save from a Kevin Schade header. 4.

Pedro Porro: Solid throughout the game. Didn’t have a lot to do defensively or in attacking areas, but did well to make key interceptions on the halfway line and help Spurs retain possession in the Brentford half. 6.

Cristian Romero: Caught out of position a couple of times in the first half. A much more solid second half, with Romero putting in important headers and interceptions to keep Brentford away from the Spurs box. 6.

Micky van de Ven: Solid in the first 45, but did pick up a booking. Equally strong in the second, but with far less to do as the game went on. 6.

Destiny Udogie: Got down the left-hand side really well to be one of the most dangerous Spurs players on the day. Threatened to unlock the Brentford defence numerous times but just couldn’t find the right final ball. 7.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Some really tidy play in the middle of the park. Nothing outstanding, but a composed display. Replaced on the hour by Yves Bissouma. 6.

Dejan Kulusevski: Another fantastic performance from the Swede; lots of energy in the press, creative down the right and in the middle, had lots of shots on goal. Unlucky not to have made more of a difference. 7.

Heung-min Son: A decent display from the Spurs skipper. Appeared to be more concerned with providing for his teammates, and ended the day with two brilliant assists. 7.

Dominic Solanke: Got his first goal, did some great pressing, and found himself in a number of good spots in the box. Will be disappointed not to have got more, but that goal could be a big confidence boost. 6.

Brennan Johnson: A really lively performance capped by a fine goal. Missed a couple of good opportunities, but he has to be happy with his role in the game today. 7.

Substitutes

Yves Bissouma: On for Bentancur with 30 minutes to go. Booked for a very clumsy challenge within two minutes. Made a couple of strong tackles to break up Brentford’s play. 6.

Pape Matar Sarr: On for Johnson after 70 minutes. A very decent, dynamic cameo display, with Sarr running box-to-box, getting stuck in, and helping Spurs carry the ball progressively. 7.

Lucas Bergvall: On for James Maddison with five minutes to go. No time to make an impact. N/A.

Archie Gray: On for Pedro Porro with five minutes to go, taking up a right-back role once again. Would be unfair to judge him on that brief appearance. N/A.

Mikey Moore: On for Solanke with five minutes to go. Didn’t have enough time to get going. N/A.
