Ange Postecoglou reserves special praise for Tottenham’s two goalscorers against Coventry City, Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson, backing the latter to be a key contributor to the side this season.

Both Spence and Johnson have had big setbacks lately. The defender had to deal with the disappointment of being left out of Tottenham’s Europa League squad, while the winger decided to deactivate his Instagram handle after coming in for a lot of abuse from the fans online.
Johnson came on for the injured Wilson Odobert on 18 minutes while Spence replaced Destiny Udogie at left-back at the interval at Coventry Building Society Arena.
The full-back started and finished off the move that led to Tottenham’s equaliser on 88 minutes while the former Nottingham Forest man cooly slotted home in stoppage time after being put through on goal by Rodrigo Bentancur, with the away side turning the game on its head late on.

When asked about the performances of Spence and Johnson, Postecoglou told Football.London: “Yeah both were really good. They made an impact when they came on. Look, it was it wasn’t an easy night for us, as I said, credit to Coventry.
“But, you know, a lot of guys getting first starts, but I really think there’s some positives in there with Archie and Lucas and these guys getting some significant game time for us.
“And Djed, and as you said with Brennan, you know I spoke about it yesterday that he comes in, works hard at his game and when you’re an attacking player, you’re always kind of getting measured against certain things.
“I said, if he can get through this period and just be positive and and play like he can, he can be a significant contributor to us and credit to him. He got a good goal tonight.”

Hopefully, this goal should do Johnson’s confidence some good and the winger is able to build on this momentum. Spence, meanwhile, sent a clear message to Ange after being left out of the Europa League squad and the 24-year-old showed that he deserves more minutes.
