TOTTENHAM FANS TRACK SHOCK NEW DAY SIGNING’S FLIGHT OF £56M PLAYER, HIS MOVE WILL BE COMPLETED ASAP

Bryan King believes Tottenham and Real Betis’ agreement over Johnny Cardoso is “good business” by the Premier League side.

The ex-Spurs scout has described the transfer agreement between the two clubs as “unique”.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (30 August), Tottenham have agreed a priority option with Betis to sign Cardoso in the future as part of the deal which saw Giovani Lo Celso move to the La Liga side.

The American midfielder has agreed to the deal. However, should Spurs opt against signing him, the North London outfit will have a sell-on clause for his next transfer.

As reported by Give Me Sport journalist Tom Bogert via X (30 August) the fixed fee which has been agreed between Real Betis and Tottenham for Cardoso’s transfer is £25.3million.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims this is an affordable agreement for Spurs.
I’ve heard of deals like this in the past,” King said.

It is a unique agreement. Tottenham will certainly be able to afford the player at that price if they do want to sign him.

However, what if Cardoso decides he doesn’t want to join Tottenham a year from now? What if he is to get injured? I would have thought there would be a simpler conclusion to this deal.

“However, Real Betis probably didn’t have the money for Lo Celso. Therefore, it sounds like Tottenham have done some good business here considering the situation. It will be interesting to see how this pans out, that is for sure.”

Tottenham to sign Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso?

This is a unique transfer agreement which isn’t seen often in football. However, it could be argued that Spurs have been incredibly creative in this situation.

It was obvious that Lo Celso needed to go. Therefore, it will be a relief for everybody in North London that the midfielder is off the books at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Real Betis likely weren’t able to match Spurs’ demands. As a result, this deal has been proposed instead, and it is a favourable one for the Premier League club.

Should Tottenham decide to sign Cardoso, a transfer agreement is already in place. However, if they opt against signing the 22-year-old, they will still get a sell-on fee for a player that they never even owned.

As a result, it is difficult to see too many supporters having complaints about this deal.
