Tottenham are set to terminate Tanguy Ndombele’s contract a year ahead of its official end date.
The French midfielder, whose contract runs until June 2025, will be parting ways with the club this summer.
According to football insider, Tottenham have been negotiating with Ndombele for some time to reach a settlement over a pay-off, and a mutual agreement has now been reached.
The Lilywhites have decided to pay Ndombele £5 million to facilitate the early termination of his contract.
The report adds that the club is expected to announce Ndombele’s departure soon.
This decision is primarily driven by his substantial weekly wages of £200,000, which makes him the highest earner at Tottenham, surpassing even star players Heung-min Son and James Maddison.sportrac
Tottenham had been actively seeking a buyer for Ndombele ahead of the upcoming transfer window but were unable to find a suitable club willing to take on his high wages.
The 27-year-old has struggled to impress during his loan spells, most recently at Galatasaray, where he started only four games in 19 Turkish Super Lig appearances, totaling 454 minutes of play.
Ndombele’s time at Tottenham has been largely disappointing. Signed from Lyon in 2019 for a club-record fee of €62 million, he was expected to be a transformative presence in the midfield.
However, he has failed to live up to expectations, contributing only 10 goals and nine assists in 91 appearances for the club.
As Tottenham aim to revamp their squad for the next season, parting ways with Ndombele will free up significant wage space and allow the club to focus on signing players who better fit their plans.
He scored the first of his 10 goals in 91 appearances for the club on debut against Aston Villa.
However struggles with form and fitness peppered his Spurs career before he re-joined Lyon on loan in 2022.
The 27-year-old then became a league winner in Italy and Turkey after playing on loan for Napoli in the 2022-23 campaign before moving to Galatasaray last season.
Ndombele still had a year left on his deal with Spurs but both parties have decided to end their partnership from 30 June.
He last played for Tottenham in an FA Cup third round tie with Morecambe on 9 January 2022.
