Tottenham are leading the race to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
Eze, 25, enjoyed a phenomenal second-half of the 2023/24 season, ending the Premier League campaign on 11 goals and four assists in 27 matches. That included a run of five strikes and two assists in his final six appearances – a spree that has seen him cement his place in the England squad for Euro 2024.
His form has seen him gain interest from other Premier League clubs, including Spurs and Manchester United. Eze, who has three years left on his contract, has a £60million release clause inserted in his deal.
And the Sun report that Tottenham are in a better position to make a move for Eze. Spurs are in a healthy situation when it comes to Profit and Sustainability and could bring in Eze without having to raise money, unlike some of their rivals such as the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa.
United, as well, may have to sell to make significant moves in the transfer window, which is possible considering the worth of their squad, but it does make the situation more difficult.
Eze’s agents CAA Base also represent Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, Son Heung-min and James Maddison. Postecoglou is set to want to strengthen his squad this summer, and although Eze would use up a large chunk of their budget, the club are in a good position to move for him.
Speaking last month, Postecoglou said: “We want new attacking players, absolutely. It’s no secret, we need that. It’s also crucial to get the transfers done as soon as possible, it’s important.”
Meanwhile, Palace want to keep hold of one of their star players and will not be accepting offers below his release clause as Oliver Glasner tries to improve on his positive start to life at Selhurst Park. The Eagles won six and drew one of their last seven matches, a run that saw them finish 10th.
