Rangers must look to alternatives in their squad for Bojan Miovski, who continues to struggle for form.
Simply put, Rangers have endured a torrid start to the 2025/26 season. A hammering from Club Brugge took them out of qualifying for the Champions League and in the Premiership, the club have won just one of their opening eight matches.
Russell Martin, appointed in the summer as Rangers’ new permanent manager, lasted for just seven of those fixtures. The former Southampton boss was sacked after just 123 days in charge, becoming the shortest-ever serving Rangers manager. Since his dismissal, a number of available coaches have turned down the chance to move to Ibrox.
It would appear, after several weeks of searching, that former Rangers midfielder Kevin Muscat is favourite to become the club’s new manager. Reports have suggested that Muscat wants to see out the current Chinese Super League season, as his current club, Shanghai Port, are close to becoming champions.
Should Muscat become the new manager of Rangers, then there is one change he has to make immediately.
Miovski Needs to Be Dropped
Rangers, having been taken over by 49ers Enterprises, who also own Premier League side Leeds United, saw an influx of new players arrive in the summer. One of them was Bojan Miovski, signing from Girona towards the end of the window on a contract earning him £25,000 per week. Miovski is no stranger to the Premiership, having played for Aberdeen from 2022 to 2024.
Despite high hopes, Miovski has struggled to hit the ground running with Rangers, netting just two goals from eight appearances across all competitions with only one coming in the Premiership. Against Dundee United, the forward struggled to have any sort of impact, failing to threaten his opposition’s defence. Miovski was labelled a “problem” for his lack of impact in the game.
Muscat, as such, may have to make dropping the North Macedonia international one of his first decisions if and when he arrives in Glasgow. Rangers have other options that they can utilise, such as 21-year-old Youssef Chermiti.
A product of the Sporting academy, Chermiti joined Everton in 2023 but struggled to break into their first team. As such, he departed permanently in the latest summer transfer window, signing a four-year deal with the club when he joined for £10 million.
Chermiti is yet to score a goal for Rangers, having only started twice in the Europa League. The forward is young, but for the price Rangers signed him for, they need Chermiti to have an immediate impact. Should Miovski continue starting, even in his particularly poor form, then the Portuguese youth international will not get the time he needs to develop into a first-team player.
