A transfer that looked wrapped up is now sparking fresh intrigue, with a twist involving Scottish interest.
Renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has dropped the latest bombshell on social media: Portuguese winger Carlos Forbs is all set to swap Ajax for Club Brugge.
On paper, not earth-shattering. But here’s the kicker — Forbs reportedly turned down offers from Scotland and other European clubs to sign for the Belgian side instead.
The deal’s worth around £7.4 million, so if he had chosen Scotland, the only realistic suitors would have been Celtic or Rangers.
It’s unclear which half of the Old Firm was in for him, but both Glasgow giants have been busy searching for wingers this window. Rangers boss Russell Martin just brought in Djedi Gassama for £2.2m and wants more. Across town, Celtic added Swedish wide man Benjamin Nygren — and could dip back into the market if Brendan Rodgers moves Korean attacker Yang Hyun-Jun on.
Romano confirmed the move with his trademark “Here we go!” on X: “Carlos Forbs is set to join Club Brugge from Ajax, here we go! Deal done for €8.5m fee. The player is traveling to Belgium tonight ahead of his medical tomorrow. Forbs opted for the Brugge project over offers from England, Italy and Scotland.”o
