Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Espirito Santo was asked if he will stay at Nottingham Forest and his answer wasn’t exactly convincing.
“Look, this is not the moment to speak about me, not even think about me… to think about the club and the idea for next season,” the Forest boss said.Nottingham Forest News understand that Evangelos Marinakis wants Espirito Santo to sign a new deal, so if he does leave, it will be from his side rather than the club’s.
Perhaps the Portuguese head coach just wanted the attention to be on the players’ achievement, even if it did end in disappointment.
There will likely be discussions with Marinakis over the coming days, so we may get a clearer answer when the dust has settled.
Espirito Santo admitted that Forest just weren’t good enough to make Champions League
Espirito Santo reflected on the season and accepted that his players gave absolutely everything, they just weren’t quite good enough to reach the Champions League.
“I have to thank the players for their commitment, when you give everything you have, you cannot say anything about it,” the Forest boss explained.
“We started well and controlled the game. Second half, we rushed and the anxiety didn’t help us. It was not enough.
“They were good chances for us. It was there, we didn’t achieve it. It’s hard when it was in your hands in the end and it doesn’t go your way.
Now, the attention turns towards what’s going to be a big summer for the club, as they must bulk up the squad for a European campaign and the challenges that brings.
Forest are already eyeing the likes of James McAtee and Liam Delap, so there’s plenty to be excited about over the coming months.
