The former Scotland international was appointed interim manager after Philippe Clement’s sacking, and his tenure is set to end next summer.
While some would like to see Ferguson continue at Ibrox, his future will ultimately depend on what the prospective new owners do once they arrive.

The ex-Gers defender believes the former Scottish midfielder’s continuity in the Ibrox dugout could potentially steady the ship and bring back the Light Blues’ identity.

Moore apparently would like to see Ferguson continue his tenure at the Bears beyond the current campaign, but realises that the prospective new owners could potentially have other ideas.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (21 April), the Australian said: “For Rangers, it’d be low risk to keep Ferguson involved with his coaching staff for another season to really be able to set culture and bring that DNA back to the football club.
“But [the prospective new owners] may have other ideas.”
Ibrox anticipating next manager after takeover
While Ferguson would’ve arguably liked to remain in charge at Ibrox, his hopes possibly diminished after losing to Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.
The former Scotland international has brought grit back into the Gers’ squad, but the results domestically have been underwhelming.
With the Europa League the only chance of silverware at the Light Blues this season, being knocked out of the competition leaves them with nothing but pride left to play for.
Rangers will hope to compete with Celtic in the upcoming campaign, and going by Ferguson’s record in the Scottish Premiership so far as a manager, he may not be the right man to lead them beyond his interim term.
The Scotsman did an impressive job beating Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers, but that alone can’t justify handing him the reins permanently.
Cavenagh and the 49ers have a massive decision on their hands as they’ll set up the start of a new project once they arrive.
Several positions need to be assessed in the Gers’ hierarchy when the US consortium complete their deal at Ibrox, and the managerial appointment should be the immediate priority.
