FANS THINK SNUBBED NEWCASTLE STAR IS BETTER THAN THREE ENGLAND PLAYERS, AND THEY WANT HIM ON THE TEAM

Newcastle United are a major presence in the England squad these days.
While Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are no longer involved, a new breed of Newcastle United stars are constantly in the frame for England.
Anthony Gordon made his breakthrough last year, while Tino Livramento earned his first cap earlier this season after progressing under Eddie Howe.
Dan Burn made his England debut against Albania on Friday night, and Lewis Hall was surely set to add his two caps had it not been for a season-ending ankle injury.
Still, perhaps another member of the Newcastle squad was unlucky not to have been involved. Thomas Tuchel included four goalkeepers in his set-up but Nick Pope was not one of them.
Tuchel has been in contact with Pope but instead chose Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson, Aaron Ramsdale and James Trafford as his ‘keepers for this month’s Three Lions camp at least.
While Pickford is the undisputed No.1 for England, former Newcastle stalwart John Anderson believes Pope was unlucky.

The Newcastle goalkeeper has not played for England since a 3-3 draw with Germany back in September 2022.
Howe has constantly backed Pope as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League despite some indifferent form both before and after the knee injury to have ruled him out for 11 games earlier this season.
Even despite some relatively shaky performances at times, Anderson believes Pope is “definitely better” than all of Henderson, Ramsdale and Trafford.
“Pickford is obviously England’s number one and rightly so, but I would say Nick Pope is definitely better than the rest of them,” he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

Taking Pickford out of the equation given he appears to remain the first-choice anyway, it’s interesting to see how Pope compares to the other custodians in the England squad.
Burnley goalkeeper Trafford boasts the best save percentage, albeit it should be noted the 21-year-old is playing in a league below the others.
Interestingly, Newcastle want to sign Trafford to replace Pope this summer.
Perhaps unsurprisingly amid constant debate as to whether or not Pope fits the bill as a modern goalkeeper able to both come off his line and use his feet, the Newcastle stopper ranks the lowest of the four in those areas.
Sadly for Pope, the England door looks shut for now.
