Fans think Callum Hudson-Odoi aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Arsenal following his winner for Nottingham Forest against Manchester City.
Hudson-Odoi scored the only goal of Saturday’s Premier League fixture as Forest secured a famous 1-0 victory at the City Ground.
Forest, who occupy third place, have now opened up a four-point gap over fourth-placed Man City in the table.
After the game, Hudson-Odoi joined Lynsey Hipgrave, Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott to share his views on their big win.The star winger isn’t getting carried away with their fine form and insists they need to ‘stay humble’.
On TNT Sports, he said: “We’ve just got to stay humble…”
Hudson-Odoi’s humble claim didn’t go unnoticed on social media as fans think he poked fun at Arsenal – being a former Chelsea player.Arsenal fans, however, are convinced it was a dig at Man City following Haaland’s comments earlier in the season.
One X user wrote: “‘Stay humble’ Elite trolling from Cal.”
A second argued: “Dunked on them and told them to stay humble. My guyyyyy.”
A third said: “The whole of the PL turning Haaland’s words back on him.”
One thing’s for sure; the ‘humble’ line has been a popular phrase this season, with Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon also making reference to it following their Carabao Cup win over the Gunners.
Forest, meanwhile, remain on course to secure Champions League qualification as Hudson-Odoi is aware of the position they find themselves in ahead of the run-in.
“It’s important of course! Every game now is difficult and we know we have to fight for every game,” he added. “I’m buzzing for the goal and happy for the team. We worked so hard and we deserved it.
“We know the position we’re in but we’ve got to keep getting points on the board. We’ll enjoy it but then it’s about recovering and turning to the next game. It’s a brilliant day for us.”
