NEWCASTLE FANS FUME AT ‘STUPID’ CALLUM WILSON AFTER ‘DISASTER’ VS FOREST

Newcastle United fans have been left raging at Callum Wilson after his substitute appearance during their clash v Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side limped over the finish line to claim a 4-3 win after Callum Hudson-Odoi’s opener was met by goals from Lewis Miley and Jacob Murphy, and a brace from Alexander Isak.

The second-half saw Forest mount a fight back thanks to goals from Nikola Milenkovic and Ryan Yates which led to a nervous end to the game for the home side.

However, it was the 87th-minute arrival of Wilson which left many supporters raging after he failed to impact the game to the desired level.

In eight minutes on the pitch, the former England striker failed to complete a single dribble, lost all three of his attempted ground duels, lost possession three times and completed just one pass. [Sofascore]

The most alarming moment for the supporters came as he was presented with two opportunities to waste time in the corner or feed his teammates, but chose to go for goal instead.

As a result, Wilson has come in for heavy criticism from his own fans since the full-time whistle.

Callum Wilson contract decision made at Newcastle

Wilson’s long-term future at Newcastle remains up in the air as things stand, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.

Newcastle will let Wilson leave for free in the summer after growing frustrated with his injuries and inconsistency.

No talks have been held over a potential new deal, while they remain keen to clear his wages from the bill to help them reinvest in Howe’s first-team squad.

Meanwhile, Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is being eyed by Newcastle as a possible Wilson replacement, with plans already in place for his departure

Callum Wilson slammed for ‘disaster’ v Nottingham Forest

Wilson’s impact on Newcastle games has been minimal so far this season, as he has missed 20 of their 26 Premier League games so far through injury.

That has been a source of frustration for Howe and the St James’ Park faithful, but his performances when fit and called upon have been nothing short of uninspiring.

Following the Nottingham Forest victory, Newcastle fans have taken to social media to express their anger at Wilson, labelling him “stupid” and “embarrassing”.
