Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo has backed one of his players to receive their first England call up in the coming weeks.
Despite a flurry of recent losses, Forest have been the Premier League’s surprise package this term and appear well on course to claim a Champions League spot for next season.
Murillo, Nicola Milenkovic and Chris Wood have been among those to have rightfully received plaudits for their performances from the wider football community.
When asked about Anderson’s prospects of a call-up, Nuno said he believed Anderson could receive a maiden call-up, but stopped short of putting pressure on the new England boss.
“I think he has enough talent to be regarded”, Nuno said via GOAL. “The rest is up to Thomas and I won’t comment on that.
“When he started the season he was playing wide for us, giving us a lot of things in terms of possession.
However, Forest boss Nuno has singled out Elliot Anderson for praise, and claimed the midfielder could be called up by England in the up-coming international break, months after joining Forest in the summer as part of a Newcastle United fire sale.”But his numbers in terms of assists and goals aren’t there. Now, he’s giving us that.
“He’s reaching the box, shooting. He’s got goals and he has to believe he can do it. I think it’s something he has and he can do.
“For his age, I think he has been really good. And the club operated well, bringing him here.
“And I think he can improve. His defensive work has been good. But it can be better.“We’re trying to look at all the details with him. We don’t want him to overthink things. If he’s in position – try to take a shot – even if he’s not in a good position – don’t overthink it.”
