Evangelos Marinakis wanted Juventus defender in January but he rejected Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest were linked with a number of players during the summer with the vast majority of links being with forward players.

Evangelos Marinakis wanted to add a new forward player to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. However, the Reds decided to stick with what they have amid some hefty transfer valuations flying around.
Juventus defender Federico Gatti rejected Nottingham Forest move

According to Tutto Sport, Forest owner Marinakis was very keen to take the £40,000-a-week Gatti to Forest during the January window. That feels like an odd one given that the Reds boast a strong rearguard as it is.

However, Marinakis wanted the Juventus central defender and even sounded out his representatives. The response wasn’t positive though and Gatti holds a real desire to make a go of things in Italy.

At 26-years-old, Gatti has now proved himself as a regular in the Juventus team. He’s made 96 appearances for the Old Lady in total and has started to shine after returning from a loan spell with Serie B outfit Frosinone.
Gatti has captained the Juventus team on occasions this season. As a result, he clearly saw no reason to leave Turin during the January window and politely declined the advances of Marinakis.

Forest possibly preparing for Murillo departure

Although the Brazilian signed a new contract in the summer, bigger clubs will circle Murillo during the summer window. As a result, Forest are perhaps preparing contingency plans ahead of schedule.

Gatti does look to finally be settled at the club. That was suggested when Juventus midfielder Danilo praised the 26-year-old calling him a role model for the other players to look up to.
The defender might remain on the radar for Forest in the summer. If the Reds are able to qualify for Europe then attracting players from clubs like Juventus might prove less problematic.

Gatti appears settled at Juventus, however. With that in mind, Marinakis might well be fighting a losing battle to bring the player to the City Ground and perhaps other options will be getting compiled instead.
