Alexander Isak was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet for Newcastle United in their win against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Newcastle United fans have been crying out for a striker who can help them win a trophy – they’ve got exactly that with Alexander Isak.
Since Isak signed for Newcastle for a club-record fee in 2022, the Swede has scored 54 goals in 94 games in all competitions under Eddie Howe’s tutelage.
Isak did find the back of the net early on in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win against Arsenal, but the goal was chalked off after the 25-year-old was deemed to have been in an offside position for the pass from Anthony Gordon.
There were many Arsenal fans mesmerised by Isak’s performance – those fans were hoping Arsenal would sign him in the January transfer window. Arsenal want Isak who has scored 17 Premier League goals so far this campaign, the third highest of any player in the league.
With Wembley on the horizon, Isak has taken to social media to celebrate the win.Alexander Isak’s Instagram post after Newcastle win
Isak played a big part in Newcastle’s first goal of the evening, the striker wrestled through Arsenal’s defence and struck the post with his effort, which bounced back for Jacob Murphy to finish.
The move from Isak made Alan Shearer joke with Ian Wright over Arsenal’s defence. Now, Isak has posted his feelings on Instagram.
Isak’s post simply reads, “Wembley.”
It will be the second time that Isak will play at Wembley with Newcastle. The Swede was brought on for the Carabao Cup final in 2023 while the Magpies were 2-0 down to Manchester United. Although he impressed in the game, it was not enough and Newcastle were left to rue minor mistakes which cost them.
While Isak was still electric for Newcastle on Wednesday night, fans would have liked to have seen him score a goal that counted in the game. Many will agree that would have been the icing on the cake for the evening.Newcastle target comments on Isak’s post
Isak’s post received a comment from fellow countryman Anthony Elanga who said “king Isak.”
Newcastle bid for Elanga in the summer when desperate for a new right-winger. The approach was swiftly knocked back by Nottingham Forest, who will be the last team Newcastle face at St James’ Park before the Carabao Cup final.
Elanga also congratulated William Osula when he scored his first Newcastle goal in an FA Cup win against Bromley in January.
The Magpies will be in the market for a right-winger in the summer after selling Miguel Almiron to Atlanta United. Reports suggest that Newcastle will try and sign Elanga in the summer.
At 22, Elanga has plenty of time to develop into a top-quality player, he has 11 goal involvements this season including eight assists.
