Graham Potter will be angry after what happened before Chelsea equalised against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge, Gary Neville says.
The ex-Manchester United ace believes Levi Colwill fouled Jarrod Bowen before the Blues eventually equalised through Pedro Neto and went on to win 2-1 on Monday (3 February).
In the build-up to Chelsea’s first goal, the centre-back appeared to have impeded the Hammers’ attacker, but VAR deemed it outside the attacking phase of play.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Gary Neville Podcast (3 February), the former defender said: “I think [Potter] will be angry with the decision on the first goal. That’s a definite foul by Colwill. He’s just rash.
“Jorgensen comes out and converges on his own defender. Colwill sees that and thinks I better stop Bowen, closing him down. [Colwill] just cuts across [Bowen] and takes him out.
“If you can’t see that as an assistant referee over that far side looking across the pitch, it’s disappointing. And then there’s this thing that VAR not being able to go back so far.”West Ham United show promise in Chelsea loss

While Potter will be disappointed about the loss, he will be happy with the Irons’ performances for the majority of the game against Enzo Maresca’s team.
Bowen gave the East London club the lead just before half-time, but they were unfortunate to concede two goals in the second half.Chelsea’s winner came through an Aaron Wan-Bissaka own goal after an apparent cross from Cole Palmer deflected off the defender.
West Ham have had a mixed start under Potter in terms of results, and the London Stadium faithful will want to see better outcomes in the coming weeks.
The Hammers’ fans will likely acknowledge the football under the former Brighton boss is better than it was under Julen Lopetegui.
Still, the Irons haven’t seen any change in their position as they sit 15th in the Premier League, 10 points above the relegation zone.
The East London club have strengthened their team with Evan Ferguson and the return of James Ward-Prowse, which should likely give them a boost until the end of the season.
