As the oblivious Jhon Duran watched his side take an early lead in the Champions League on Wednesday night, a significant update regarding his future at Aston Villa emerged.
It will go down as one of the biggest transfers of the 2025 January transfer window if a deal goes through.
Duran, who has been one of Villa’s standout performers this season with 12 goals in 29 games, is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a proposed move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
That’s according to The Athletic, who suggest an agreement in principle has been reached between Villa and Al Nassr worth £64.5 million plus add-ons for the 21-year-old striker.
In fact, personal terms have already been agreed, with a lucrative five-and-half-year contract on the table.
Journalist Nicolò Schira claims Duran will be handed a yearly salary of €20 million [£16.7m], which is around £320,000 per week.Earlier this week, Villa’s Premier League rivals West Ham had a £57million bid for the Colombian forward rejected
The Hammers showed interest in the player last summer when they bid £30 million plus teenage midfielder Lewis Orford – an offer that was rebuffed by Unai Emery’s side.
At the time, it was suggested that Villa had “no intention of selling” the 21-year-old in the January transfer window but it appears things have changed following Al Nassr’s big-money move.
According to Foot Mercato, Real Madrid and PSG were also interested in signing Duran.
