A former Leicester City star could find himself lining up against the Foxes as he eyes a return to the Premier League.

With the January transfer window set to open in less than 24 hours, players around the world will have one last chance to make a move.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to be active in the market and has his eyes set on a number of positions as Leicester look to turn around their fortunes in the Premier League and climb out of the relegation zone.

Ex-Leicester City star Demarai Gray hopeful of Premier League return

Former Leicester winger Demarai Gray is reportedly keen on securing a move back to England in the second half of the season.

Gray joined Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, 18 months ago but has failed to settle in the Middle East and according to The Sun, wants a move back.

The winger could be available for a cut-price deal of £5m, with Fulham looking the most likely destination as Marco Silva looks to bolster his squad.

After a strong first campaign the 28-year-old has been on the fringes of the first team, playing just seven times.

Gray’s time at Leicester felt like there always could’ve been more to offer.

Arriving as a teenager in January 2015, the former Birmingham City youngster was one of England’s brightest young talents.

On occasions, he would show that but once Brendan Rodgers joined, his future was inevitably away from the King Power Stadium.

He eventually left to join Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 and shortly after his departure, Gray revealed that leaving was the only option after no signs of a new contract looked likely.

“There was no contract offer, there weren’t any discussions about it,” he said.

“I didn’t go knocking asking for one because I wanted to be, if I was to stay, at a club where I was wanted and valued. I didn’t feel that, I wasn’t playing. I didn’t take it personally – it’s just football.”
