Ruud van Nistelrooy’s latest comments have indicated that one Leicester City star could be on his way out in January.
The transfer window opens in less than a week and Leicester will be looking to strengthen the squad as best as they can to give their Premier League survival hopes the best chance.
Defensive options are being looked at by the Foxes but with a lack of finances on offer, loans may be the best route to go.
Three Leicester stars are out of contract in 2025 too, meaning that changes to the squad are also likely and it would be no surprise to see one Leicester star head for the exit door.
Leicester City could cancel Odsonne Edouard’s loan deal
One player who has failed to hit the ground running at the King Power Stadium is striker Odsonne Edouard.
Jamie Vardy’s exceptional form and the return of Patson Daka means Edouard is facing a tough task to get into the side.
Speaking about the forward’s lack of game time, the Leicester boss said: “It’s clear we have three number nines, with Jamie (Vardy), with Patson and with Edou. Every game there are decisions to be made on the nines you bring in your squad.
“I’m going to look at how many players in each position I need, and so far it’s been Jamie and Patson who have been chosen. But he’s fit and he’s training and it can change every week.”
What is the Premier League loan rule?
Leicester will be allowed to make additions in the January transfer window, but face some restrictions when it comes to loaning players in.
As per Premier League rules, clubs have up to eight players on loan in their squad.
The Foxes currently have two in Facundo Buonanotte and Edouard, but, that still represents a problem.
Additionally, the rules also state that top flight clubs can have a maximum of two players on loan from Premier League clubs.
Currently, the Foxes fill that criteria meaning that if they are to do a deal, one of Edouard or Buonanotte would have to be sent back and given that Buonanotte has been one of Leicester’s best players this season, it seems more likely the ex-Celtic frontman would depart.
