Newcastle intend on selling Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football hakimi sport Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that both players could be sacrificed due to profit and sustainability issues at the club.
Newcastle were forced into selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively in the summer in order to balance the books.
The Magpies may now have to make similar decisions in January to ensure that they don’t face any PSR charges in the form of potential points deductions.
Almiron is seen as one of the star players that Eddie Howe could be willing to let leave due, while Trippier has fallen out of the starting lineup this season and could also be sacrificed.
The 34-year-old defender was heavily linked with a move away from St. James’ Park in the summer, and Newcastle could go back to that in January.
Newcastle need to sell players to boost their squad
The Magpies are wanting to make improvements to their squad to provide Howe with more options for the second half of the season as they continue to push for European football.
However, the club are currently in a predicament where they must sell players to fund any potential new signings in January.
Trippier is seen as a more likely option due to his reported wage packet of £140,000 per week, with the club keen to get him off the books.
