The Reds won courtesy of goals from Nikola Milenkovic and Anthony Elanga, with the goals coming after Jhon Duran had given the visitors the lead.Forest have moved up to fourth in the Premier League table ahead of today’s clashes in the division and from 16 games, the Reds have 28 points.
Elanga’s goal was brilliant and received praise from Theo Walcott after the game as he returned to form.
Forest did ride their luck at times though and it’s fair to say that the refereeing decisions probably went in their favour on Trentside.
Unai Emery fuming after losing to Forest
The Aston Villa boss is now seething after seeing back the incident from the first half involving Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers.
Anderson did make a clumsy attempt to try and thwart Rogers and he seemingly escaped into the box but referee Sam Barrot was unmoved.
Emery said: “The first time I saw it I didn’t think it was a penalty but after I rewatched the penalty, it’s clearly a penalty. It’s a massive mistake from the VAR today, a massive mistake.
“I respect the referee and I respect the VAR but the VAR is there to help the referees after. Now we watch the VAR on the television and it’s a clear penalty so why didn’t we get it.”Emery forgets key detail during Forest clash
There are a number of discrepancies with the comments made by Emery.
For starters, Forest were denied a goal of their own when Elanga’s shoulder appeared to be offside before he teed up Chris Wood who thought he’d scored his eleventh goal of the campaign.
In terms of the Rogers incident, he seems to have conveniently forgotten that the Villa forward was pulling Anderson profusely before the Forest man decided to return the favour.
Emery’s rant is mildly amusing and ultimately, from a Forest point of view, it’s nice to see the Reds on the right side of a stroke of luck for a change.
It’s never nice when you get on the wrong side of important decisions but Forest know how that feels and Nuno Espirito Santo will be offering little sympathy to Emery.
