Tottenham fans explode at VAR as Moises Caicedo footage v Chelsea re-analysed
Tottenham fans have exploded at Anthony Taylor and the VAR team after Moises Caicedo avoided a red card during their clash v Chelsea.
Ange Postecoglou’s side fell to a 4-3 defeat at home after Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski’s goals were overturned out by efforts from Jadon Sancho, Enzo Fernandez and a brace from Cole Palmer, while Son Heung-min grabbed a late consolation.
frantic first half saw Spurs go 2-0 up after just 11 minutes, before Cristian Romero was withdrawn with a new injury and Chelsea found their way back into the game.
The Blues then spun the game on its head after half-time with a dominant display.
However, the focus of the home crowd rested on Caicedo after a late challenge saw him go studs-up into the shin of Pape Matar Sarr, but the midfielder avoided punishment altogether.
Many, including Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ commentary team, were left stunned by the decision not to send the referee to the monitor after footage was shared on social media.
Replays showed what many had suspected immediately – Caicedo’s studs planted into Tottenham man’s lower leg, but the VAR officials decided it lacked “excessive force”.

Many Tottenham fans have compared the challenge to one which earned Romero a red card in this same fixture last season, as they were left baffled by the call.
