West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both strongly considering making a change in the dugout and both want former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
It has been a bad start to the season for the Hammers and Wolves and this round of midweek fixtures has not helped them.
West Ham were beaten 3-1 by Leicester City on Tuesday night and Wolves were thrashed 4-0 by fellow strugglers Everton on Wednesday evening.
The results left Lopetegui’s side 14th in the table and O’Neil’s all the way down in 19th and both managers under serious pressure.

While neither club has decided to swing the axe just yet, talkSPORT reports that both have ‘sounded out’ Potter over his interest in joining them.

The report states that it would be the east London club that is a much more appealing option to Potter than the Molineux side.
The two clubs meet at the London Stadium on Monday night and Potter will be looming large over the fixture.

Telling Sky Sports in September of his interest in a return to work, Potter said: ‘It still has to be the right thing, but I’m excited for it. I’m excited to hear what the opportunities are and I’ll take each one and judge it on its merits.’
Sky Sports report that the Hammers are not ready to pull the trigger just yet and Lopetegui will be in charge on Monday.

O’Neil addressed being under pressure after the heavy defeat to the Toffees, saying he is cracking on with work as normal.

I am not concerned about my future, only the club’s future,’ O’Neil said on Thursday. ‘I came into work, the same as every other day, I was the first one here this morning and the last one here last night making sure that everything’s ticked off from last night’s game, making sure everything’s ready for Monday’s game and making sure that we’re in a spot where we can push the players again.
‘I don’t think about me personally, I think about the team and where we are in the league, and the last two results let us down from the momentum that we created.
‘But there always comes the next challenge, which comes very quickly at West Ham on Monday.’

Gary O’Neil has already told Wolves who should replace him as manager – he’s been linked

Wolves are considering their next steps after suffering a humiliating defeat to Everton on match day 14.

Fans questioned Gary O’Neil’s suitability to the Wolves job at full-time at Goodison Park.

The Old Gold lost 4-0 to Everton who before facing the Midlands side, hadn’t scored in four Premier League games.

It’s understood that O’Neil’s future is under consideration as Wolves sit 19th in the table having conceded the most goals in the league – 36 in 14 games.

At the start of the week, O’Neil said he had ‘zero concerns’ about his future although, such has dramatically changed since Wednesday night’s disaster.

While Fosun understand that they’ve let O’Neil down by not supporting the manager sufficiently during the summer, the search is underway for a possible replacement.

Reports have suggested that Wolves are considering Graham Potter but there’s competition for the former Chelsea boss.

West Ham are also eyeing the Englishman, who could replace ex-Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui in what is a difficult time for both clubs.

Having impressed at Brighton before being tested at Stamford Bridge, Potter could be a strong contender to succeed O’Neil, which is something the current boss could get behind.

O’Neil has told Wolves why Potter would be a good candidate

O’Neil is a fan of Potter’s work, as he revealed before the Englishman took charge of Chelsea in September 2022.

When the ex-Brighton manager was linked to the Blues, O’Neil was prompted to share his thoughts, which he did – waxing lyrical about Potter.

“I can fully understand why Chelsea would be interested in him,” O’Neil said during a press conference in September 2022.

He’s done a fantastic job, well-coached team, good in possession, good out of possession, really good principles.”

The Wolves manager went on to describe Potter as a ‘top coach’, hinting at what the Old Gold could have if they hired him in the near future.

“He’s a top coach, as a young coach myself you look around and his teams were ones you looked at and studied. They play a nice brand of football and they’re very functional as well, not surprised that big clubs would be interested in his services.”

There are pros and cons to hiring Potter who averaged only 1.28 points per game at Chelsea, via Transfermarkt, yet shone at the Amex to sculpt Brighton into what they are today.

It would be a bold move for Wolves to dismiss O’Neil and hire Potter, with a race already on between the Old Gold and West Ham to tie down the Englishman.
