JULEN LOPETEGUI CRITICIZED FOR THE ‘RIDICULOUS’ DECISION THAT LED TO WEST HAM’S DEFEAT TO NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Roshane Thomas has questioned Julen Lopetegui over his decision to axe Crysencio Summerville at half-time as West Ham United lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest.
The Irons suffered a demoralising defeat at the hands of Forest at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday (2 November), courtesy of goals from Chris Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ola Aina.
With West Ham trailing 1-0 and Edson Alvarez picking up a red card, Lopetegui replaced Summerville and Guido Rodriguez with Michail Antonio and Carlos Soler at half-time.
Thomas could not see the sense behind taking Summerville off, writing on X: “Taking off Summerville is a ridiculous decision.”

Was Julen Lopetegui wrong to replace Crysencio Summerville in Nottingham Forest v West Ham United?

Lopetegui cannot be faulted for bringing Antonio on at half-time as the team needed more firepower in attack and someone to hold the ball up.
However, there is a case to be made about Lucas Paqueta being a better option to be replaced instead of Summerville.Although neither of the attackers made a significant impact in the first half, with the Hammers mustering just one shot, Paqueta has particularly been on a bad run of form for a while now.

There were claims that the Brazil international would be dropped against Forest (GiveMeSport), but he somehow managed to keep his place.Paqueta went on to play the entire 90 minutes for the Hammers, but did not contribute much and even picked up another yellow card.
He notably failed to create a single chance despite having 52 touches of the ball and lost 13 of his 19 duels (FotMob).
