Lee Carsley has revealed what advice he gave Jarrod Bowen ahead of the West Ham United gem making an instant impact for England against the Republic of Ireland.
From what was a dismal first-half showing from the Three Lions turned into a demolition job from the 53rd minute when Harry Kane gave his side the lead from the spot.
Bowen was introduced in the 75th minute, getting on the scoresheet just 30 seconds later and England’s interim boss Carsley shared what he told the Hammers forward before his introduction in the 5-0 win.
In an interview post-match on ITV (17 November), Carsley said: “It was a great, great goal.
“I said to him when he went on just shoot every time you get the ball. He’s got such quality.
“I think sometimes he can be a bit unselfish, he’s to make sure he gets his goals, gets his assists and get what he deserves.”Jarrod Bowen first England goal could boost West Ham hopes
With Bowen on the scoresheet, the boost in confidence for the Irons attacker will be monumental and should serve as a huge positive when he returns for West Ham.
Having had a mixed campaign so far, his latest accolade could not only be a major boost for him, but also for the club with Julen Lopetegui undoubtedly hoping that he will be able to continue his form at the London Stadium.Lopetegui remains under pressure to keep his job and failure to win either of the next two fixtures could prove detrimental although they don’t look pretty.West Ham have a fairly torrid couple of fixtures approaching, with an away trip to Newcastle followed by a home encounter with Arsenal, and if the Hammers are to have any success in those games, key players are going to have to be at the top of their game.Bowen has registered five goal contributions so far this campaign, three of those being goals of his own, and his confidence-booster against Ireland may be just what he needed to start producing the numbers that many know he is capable of.
