Miguel Almiron’s agent has admitted he will assess any offers Newcastle United receive for his client.
A lack of first-team football at St James’ Park has raised questions over the Paraguayan’s future. His only Premier League start came in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea last month.
Almiron penned a three-and-a-half-year extension in March 2023 following an 11-goal purple patch that helped inspire a Champions League finish. However, the forward has found himself in and out of the team since and piqued Saudi Arabian interest last January.
Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab were reportedly sniffing around but Almiron – a club-record signing in January 2019 – chose to stay put. MLS outfit Charlotte FC also made an approach in the summer but could not meet Newcastle’s demands.
Eddie Howe always wanted to keep Almiron, who remains happy on Tyneside. While that sentiment has been echoed by his agent, Daniel Campos, he conceded any offer would be considered
Almiron’s wages and rumoured £60million release close are further hurdles for any potential deal. Campos told Radio La Red: “Although Miguel isn’t happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight at Newcastle.
The coach (Howe) always supported him. When he asked for something, he asked him to not leave. It must be a tactical or momentary issue. They (Charlotte FC) offered around $18million.
“We had arranged a contract with them, but the club rejected the proposal from the United States. He has a valid contract. His contract was renewed last year for three more (years) and with the new owners of the club.
“Miguel is not desperate for money or to do crazy things. If there is an offer from any team, we will go through the competent channels. The clause, except for the Brazilians, is unaffordable (for South American clubs). The problem is also the contract he has.”
