Crystal Palace open investigation into racial abuse of Daichi Kamada
November 11 – Crystal Palace have launched an investigation into allegations of racist abuse directed at midfielder Daichi Kamada following his red card against Fulham on Saturday.
The Japan international was sent off in the 76th minute for a reckless challenge on Fulham’s Kenny Tete, with Palace trailing 1-0 at the time. Fulham capitalised on the dismissal, securing a 2-0 win with goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson.
The club has not specified which group of supporters is implicated in the abuse allegations, though it has made clear that any form of racism will not be tolerated. Crystal Palace’s swift response aligns with the Premier League’s ongoing efforts to tackle discrimination in the sport.
“We are aware of a report that Daichi Kamada was racially abused during the match against Fulham and we are investigating the allegation,” Palace said.
“The club has a zero tolerance policy towards any form of abuse and we will take the strongest possible action against anyone identified as the perpetrator.”
s a result of the red card, Kamada will be sidelined for Palace’s next three league fixtures against Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Ipswich following the international break, leaving a gap in midfield for struggling manager Oliver Glasner to address.
Having been signed from Lazio in the summer to replace Bayern-bound star Michael Olise, Kamada is yet to tally a Premier League goal involvement across 11 matches, but has scored twice and assisted twice in the EFL Cup.
The Eagles find themselves in the relegation zone after a tough start to the Premier League season. There are signs that Glasner’s side will find their feet, though, having picked up 10 wins in 11 games to close out the 2023/24 season, with much of that team still intact.
They will have to solve the equation soon, though, with tough fixtures against Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Manchester City on the horizon.
