Celtic fans ‘greetin’ at Matt O’Riley’s botched Brighton celebration as muscle memory kicks in for Parkhead hero
The Denmark international was on top of the world at the final whistle and returned to his Parkhead roots
A video showing Matt O’Riley turning to a traditional Celtic celebration after bagging a stunning winner for Brighton has left fans reaching for the Kleenex.
The Denmark international was on top of the world at the final whistle after he scored the winner for the Seagulls in their stunning 2-1 win over Manchester City. It was O’Riley’s first appearance for Brighton since suffering a serious injury minutes into his debut against Crawley back in August. But O’Riley is back with a bang and he topped off a stunning cameo with an ice-cool finish to leave Pep Guardiola ashen-faced on the sidelines.
And it was party time at the final whistle but O’Riley – who smashed the Scottish transfer sale record in a deal which could reach up to £30m – wasn’t clued up on what he should do in front of the locals. And Celtic fans, tuning into the bittersweet scenes, joked muscle memory kicked in for a player who turned to the celebration Kyogo and the Green Brigade perform after Celtic games.
But it was ‘oles’ all round on the south coast as O’Riley got the gist and was mobbed by his team-mates after he led the celebrations. And there are reasons to cheer for Fabian Hurzeler’s side as they moved into the top four after defeating City. Liverpool were also the big winners as they moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
