Plenty of star players sent Harry Kane their congratulations, but only two of Harry Kane Tottenham commented on the post.
Kane – who will share the award with current Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé – scored an astounding 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions for Bayern last season, while his eight goals for England in the same season brought the 31-year-old’s tally to 52 for club and country.
In his first season with the Bavarian giants after signing from Tottenham Hotspur, Kane blew the striking competition away in the Bundesliga as he went on to lift the famous Torjägerkanone trophy as the division’s highest goalscorer with 36 goals in just 32 appearances.
That tally also earned the Londoner the Golden Shoe award as European club football’s best striker, an accolade previously earned by Bayern greats Robert Lewandowski and Gerd Müller, whom Kane’s latest prize is named after.
Kane has started the current campaign in equally prolific form for Bayern, joining Omar Marmoush in the early running at the top of the Bundesliga scoring leaderboard with nine goals. Indeed, the striker’s tally in all competitions stands at 15 goals in 12 games, while he tops the UEFA Champions League charts this season with five strikes to his name.
The Gerd Müller Trophy was inaugurated in 2021 to honour one of the greatest goalscorers of all time. The three prior recipients are ex-Bayern forward Lewandowski (twice) and Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

On his Bundesliga debut, Kane put up a goal and assist in a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen. In his fifth game, he scored a hat-trick at home to VfL Bochum to make it seven goals in his first five appearances.
Back-to-back hat-tricks against Darmstadt and Borussia Dortmund meant the England captain had scored 15 goals in just 10 Bundesliga games to get his start to life in Germany off to an absolute flyer. By the time the winter break had come along, Kane had scored 21 goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances.
The week where he scored back-to-back hat-tricks against Darmstadt and Borussia Dortmund really summed up Kane’s contrasting season on an individual and collective basis. In between those two games, the striker was an unused sub – watching his side get knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by a third division side.
In the Bundesliga, Kane finished the season with 36 goals in just 32 games. In the Champions League, he netted eight goals in 12 games, as well as providing a further four assists, meaning in all competitions, he had scored 44 goals and provided 12 assists in just 48 games for Bayern.
The change of club scenery did not seem to impact his form for England. Kane scored or assisted in all of his first four games for the national team after joining Bayern, including a brace against Italy to secure the Three Lions’ qualification for Euro 2024.
He would score in a Euros warm-up game against Bosnia, though failed to reach his usual heights at the finals themselves. Seemingly carrying the back injury that forced his ill-fated withdrawal against Real Madrid, Kane looked very much off the pace throughout the tournament, as he captained England to a runners-up medal for the second consecutive time.
