Julen Lopetegui is “done” at West Ham United after the Hammers’ defeat to Tottenham, according to Rory Jennings.
The Hammers returned from the international break in disappointing fashion as they were beaten 4-1 in North London on Saturday (19 October) while Mohammed Kudus also saw red in the closing exchanges.
Although the individual displays were far from good enough in North London, talkSPORT pundit Jennings has suggested Lopetegui isn’t the right man to turn things around at the London Stadium.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Saturday (19 October, 16:14) he said: “I think Lopetegui is done. I do.
“I’ve seen nothing in Julen Lopetegui to suggest that he has what it takes to turn it around from here. Why does he deserve time? What has he done?
“He deserves time if you believe he has what it takes to turn it around. If you believe he has what it takes to turn it around at West Ham, get those fans back onside, sort performances out, sort everything out, the individual performances as well as the team performances.

It’s safe to say Lopetegui wasn’t most fans’ pick to replace David Moyes this summer. While the majority of supporters wanted to see a change in the dugout, very few were pining for another defensive, pragmatic manager.
So far, barring the impressive displays against Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, there has been nothing to suggest Lopetegui has what it takes to get the Hammers competing in the top half of the Premier League again.Defensively, they have been pulled apart by Manchester City, Chelsea and now Tottenham, whilst going forward they have had to rely on individual brilliance from the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Kudus to find the net.Of course, the players have to shoulder some of the burdens, but the buck will always stop with the manager.
If Lopetegui doesn’t show that he can turn this around sooner rather than later, it is hard to see how he will come back from this defeat to save his job at the London Stadium.
