West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has shared a statement on social media on the spreading of misinformation about his ongoing court case.
The midfielder has been charged with two cases of alleged match-fixing and two cases of obstructing the investigation [The Sun, 8 October] which the Brazilian has categorically denied.
“The FA proceedings are supposed to be confidential, and they are extremely serious for me and my family. The continued leaking and publication of inaccurate information in the press is now putting at risk my chance of receiving a fair hearing.Paqueta shared his frustrations via X on 17 October about the “misleading and inaccurate” articles from both the Brazilian and English press.
“I am frustrated and upset to have read recent misleading and inaccurate press article, published in both England and Brazil, claiming to disclose information about my case,” he wrote.
“Some of the information is entirely false and appears designed to undermine my position. I am also concerned that, although they are false and misleading, these articles are clearly sourced from an individual close to the case.
“I have, therefore, instructed my lawyers to write to the GFA to request that they conduct a thorough investigation into how information about the case, even if inaccurate, is finding its way into the public domain.“I continue to deny the charges against me and look forward to demonstrating my innocence”.Lucas Paqueta reacts to serious charge reports
Many different reports have surfaced over the last few days with West Ham even hiring a “top” lawyer [The Sun, 9 October] to help with their attempts to clear Paqueta of the alleged charges.
Since the case was brought into the public eye, it has been one of the main stories circling the London Stadium.
The midfielder’s hearing is coming up in March [Sun on Sunday, 6 October, page 54] which could finally produce some answers and the next stepsPaqueta has been allowed to play this season and has found himself in decent form. If a decision is unfavourable for the player or the club, however, an appeal can be held.One thing is for sure though, both parties will want the hearing to be over with so everyone involved can move on with their lives and finally have an answer to the alleged charges he’s being accused of.
